In Koreans' conversations, there is one unique characteristic;
it is that Koreans are not always honest about themselves.
For some reason, politely refusing a favor is often considered a virtue among Koreans.
A few weeks ago, I visited Dallas to take care of some business for an older deacon and to meet someone he wanted to see.
After lunch, I asked the congregation member if she was hungry and she said she was fine. So I asked her again if she liked soft tofu stew, but she didn’t say yes.
I thought it would be nice to eat soft tofu, rice in a pot, and side dishes together at a restaurant I often go to. So I ordered bowls of soft tofu with the deaconess who didn’t seem to like soft tofu stew.
And a little later, something surprising happened.
The deaconess, who didn’t seem to like soft tofu stew, devoured it and emptied the bowl. She said later that it had been over 10 years since she visited Dallas from Waco, and that it was her first time at a soft tofu stew restaurant. By the way, the deaconess is a woman in her 80s.
I looked at the empty bowl for a long time. I was glad and thankful that she had spent a long time visiting Dallas.
In fact, although the deaconess could not fully articulate it, I believe that she had a satisfying time because she enjoyed the soft tofu stew, visited Dallas, took care of various businesses, and saw people she wanted to see.
Our life of faith is the same.
God wants to give us the best.
However, there are many times when we, who are not honest, hide our true feelings and pretend that everything is okay.
God knows our hearts well. He knows better than anyone what we need and what needs to be filled now.
Because God created us in His image and saved us with the blood of Jesus Christ.
August is an important month for the Waco Lord’s Church. The new semester begins for our children and Baylor University. You may know how difficult it is for children to live in a confused and rebellious generation.
Many college students and professors are moving to the Baylor University campus and Waco for the new semester.
They will visit our church at least once.
God wants us to harvest the fruits of our souls and use us for the evangelization of the campus.
So what should we do?
Ephesians 6:18 "Praying always in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication, being alert to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints."
We must pray with an honest heart.
We must pray about what our current needs are.
We must pray with a thirst for God and a longing for his filling.
We must prepare ourselves with prayer so that we can see, hear, and proclaim God’s works.
Next week, we will have the 4th special early morning prayer meeting to welcome the new semester.
I hope this will be a time of prayer together. I hope that we will become the Lord’s saints who pray with one voice, expecting God’s work. I hope that we all go out in prayer, expecting God to do greater and more amazing things than we could ever imagine.
